Hunger Heroes
“True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost.” — Arthur Ashe
As a community we often urge each other to “eat local,” to “shop local,” and to “spend local.” In the face of staggering statistics about food insecurity and hunger within our own community, we spoke to some of our “Hunger Heroes” about what we can do together to address this important issue.
The consensus is that we need to remember to “give local.” Give money? Absolutely, if that’s comfortable for you, but there are also many other ways to give that can make an impact. Give your time; give your expertise; give your love; give your attention; give your questions; give your perspective; give your passion.
The organizations represented here range from grassroots movements to international brands, from newcomers to old-timers. What they share is a common goal: to identify and address issues that ultimately impact everyone in our community.
