Sara came to Sarasota by way of Kentucky in the summer of 2006, toting a violin and an inkling that she'd like to be a writer--a music journalist, perhaps. She graduated from New College of Florida in 2011 with an Area of Concentration in music, and started knocking on doors to local publications right out of the gate. Wouldn't you know it, doors opened: She covered Sarasota's arts and eats for SRQ Magazine; survived a two-year stint as The Scenestress, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune's anonymous nightlife columnista; and captained a colorful gang of bloggers and tastemakers as the Managing Editor of This Week In Sarasota. Along the way Sara developed quite the appetite for Sarasota's rich culinary culture. Her passions for gardening, sustainability, and eating local has made contributing to Edible Sarasota a wonderful way to continue exploring, savoring, and falling for this place. Sara now owns and operates VerbGarden, a homegrown digital marketing company on a mission to empower small businesses and entrepreneurs to succeed in a story-hungry market. When she's not journalizing and marketing, Sara scratches that persistent musical itch through fiddling, singing, writing songs, and touring internationally with the Americana folk project Passerine.
