Ingredients
Filling
- 8 cups apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 2¹/2 tablespoons flour
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ¹/2 teaspoon allspice
- 2 teaspoons lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- 2 tablespoons butter
Topping
- 3/4 cup flour
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar, packed
- ¼ cup cold butter
- 1 unbaked deep-dish piecrust
Preparation
Preheat oven to 375 °F.
Prepare filling:
Place sliced apples in large bowl with lemon juice and zest. In a separate bowl, mix flour, sugar, and spices. Toss with apples. Layer the mixture into an unbaked deep-dish piecrust. Drizzle 2 tablespoons of melted butter over apple mixture.
Prepare crumb topping:
In a medium bowl, with a pastry cutter or a fork, mix flour, both sugars, and butter until coarsely crumbled. Sprinkle evenly over apples.
Bake for 50 minutes.
