In Our Spring 2025 Issue

Dear Readers,

As we celebrate the milestone of our 70th issue of Edible Sarasota, I find myself reflecting on the journey we have taken together. This issue is not just a marker of time; it is a celebration of the relationships we’ve built and the stories we’ve shared. From the early days of local food movements to the present, we have been privileged to witness the growth of our community and the increasing awareness of the importance of supporting local agriculture and sustainable practices in producing the food we all need and enjoy.

And what could be more “local” than breakfast in bed? With Mother’s Day just around the corner, we invite you to indulge in that cherished tradition. Imagine the soft light of dawn filtering through the curtains as you present—or receive!—a vintage tray adorned with a seasonal berry parfait, French baked eggs, and perhaps a rose & chocolate latte. This intimate gesture not only would delight the taste buds but also speak to the love and gratitude we hold for the mothers in our lives. In these quiet moments, we create lasting memories that linger long after the dishes are cleared.

Memories might arrive by land or by sea. For more than a century, the Sea Scouts have turned to the water to seek life lessons and invaluable skills. Our exploration of our local Sea Scouts takes us on a journey to the shores of our community, where young adventurers are learning the importance of connecting with nature and fostering a sense of stewardship for our marine environments. These budding sailors are honing their skills while also developing a profound appreciation for the delicate ecosystems that surround us. Their enthusiasm serves as a reminder of the joy to be found in exploration and the responsibility we hold in preserving our natural treasures.

In this issue, we also shine a spotlight on Gamble Creek Farms, a local gem that embodies the spirit of sustainable farming. With each visit, you can witness the vibrant tapestry of life that flourishes here and you’ll take home an education, too. As a certified organic farm, Gamble Creek upholds the USDA’s rigorous standards for soil quality, seed sources, fertilizers, water sources and systems, and safe pest and weed control. The dedication of the farmers who nurture this land is palpable; their commitment to organic practices enriches our community and provides us with the freshest ingredients to savor in our own kitchens.

As you flip through the pages of this issue, we hope you find inspiration to celebrate the season, to explore the beauty of our environment, and to embrace the artistry that enriches our culinary landscape. May your spring be filled with joy, creativity, and the warmth of shared moments. (And maybe even a rose & chocolate latte.)

With love and gratitude,

Tracy Freeman
